Post - Rock Appreciation #1

Easily, one of the best live bands I've seen in ages and their record 'The Quiet Lamb' is something special. I'm not a music reviewer (I don't have enough dopey metaphors to crank out, say, an NME-type review) so I will just let the music speak for itself.
Her Name Is Calla are one of my favourites. This is the kind of music that big headphones are made for. Allow that atmosphere into your ears. I used to lie on my bed, in my old house, and contemplate and dream up things whilst listening to 'Takk' by Sigur Ros. This, I feel, will replace that. It's a wonderful switch and it doesn't remind me of the BBC. (The BBC have diluted more than enough Sigur Ros songs for various documentaries and dramas)

Also, enjoy this..

This Break Up Is Filmed In Front Of A Live Studio Audience

Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot (1991) / Christopher D Bate - Thirty-Something Quiet (2010)

Kylie is playing Sega Allstars Racing and I'm in the back room, trying to write. Well, trying to find the thing that I wrote. I just tend to write scenes and then find a story to fit them into. I dunno. Keeps me off the street.
If I was on the street and in a gang, it would be like something out of a musical; all leather jackets quiffs, flick combs and finger clicking. There wouldn't be much violence, we'd mostly have dance offs. Our biggest enemy would be torn hamstrings, bad hair days and those stinkin' cops that consistently insist on killing our buzz.

I'm not in a gang. Far from it. I'm not even in a band. I wish I was. I think I've missed that boat. Kylie keeps saying that I should at least be part of a small band but I don't think many groups have any need for someone who can't even strum a whistle.

Maybe that will happen in 2011. 2010 had a lot of surprises. I managed to tick off a few boxes on my unusual 'To Do' list.

'Be a Zombie in a film....CHECK'
'Write a film about a robot...CHECK'

The one silly, regrettable thing (Creatively) was being in one of my favourite bands music video. Ugh. I'm pretty sure that video was canned. I hope it was. My dancing is never good. Less so when I'm dressed up as a cult member and throwing confetti.

I can't remember what my point was.

Presents!

Christmas Reading.

I contributed to this and it's previous issues. This one is all about Christmas and that special time when we worship television and mulled wine. Some other things.

Click on Santa.

It's going to be a rad old Christmas.

2:55 am-3:17 am

I need to get my electronic house in order again. I've found it really hard to blog recently, scrapping many posts. I'm not sure why. Lots of stuff going on. I need to make more effort to record it and reconnect with blogger and my old buddies on here. Facebook is all well and good but I like reading the full happenings of my faraway friends.
So, yeah, that's what I'm going to do more of in 2011. I have been around on tumblr but that's more of a scrapbook type deal.
Currently, it's Christmas Eve. I woke up and cannot seem to sleep. Perhaps it's festive excitement. I wrapped my girlfriend's gifts so it feels a lot more real. I say wrapped. It looks, from the messy union of tape and pretty reindeer paper, that I hate her. I don't, of course. I'm just rubbish at wrapping. This is why I need a butler. A snooty one or a sassy, sarcastic one like in 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air'. He could do my Christmas wrapping for me. Is that the duties of a Butler or is that one step too far?
Anyway, it's around 2:59 am (Around? It's exactly that time as of this sentence). I'm catching up on blogs and listening to  'Oldies & Cakes' by Lokid. Retro Hip-Hop breaks. It's a good soundtrack and well worth getting off Bandcamp.
I love Bandcamp. It's like an audio treasure trove of audio goodies.

What I've been up to:

- Actually enjoying (For the most part) my day job.
- Reconnecting with the 'other side' (The creative side, not the Dark Side)
- Writing films for very talented American folks
- Co-writing with an impressively bearded drummer.
- Getting in shape
- Being all thirty-one and oddly feeling better than I did 10 years ago. (I seem to have regressed but in a good way)
- Recently celebrated being with a good girl for 4 years.
- Plotted for various fests and holidays
- Read interesting books
- Tried to grow my own beard. Fail.
- Used the word 'Fail' too much
- Wore more interesting socks

It's 3:13 am now.
Not a creature is stirring which is a good thing because no one needs creatures in their house at this time of night. (IDEA: Paranormal Activity from the POV of the ghost. Perhaps chucking to itself as it plots menace.)
3:15 am. Time to hit the hay. Not literally.

Aloofus, Aloofus...

So, it’s 2018. I’m staring down the barrel of my 40’s but with the same goofy mindset I honed in my 20’s. Mentally, it doesn’t feel as bad a...
