Handmade 2014

After a very busy, very fun weekend at Handmade 2014, I feel a little flat. I can deal with the lack of sleep, that’s always par for the course when it comes to festivals, but the house itself is dead quiet. Sure, I’m playing tracks from the many bands we watched over the weekend, but it’s missing additional people. Well, my brother who, took to the weekend with glorious gusto. There may have only been the three of us for most of the festival, but it felt like more. We laughed, listened, walked about and dicked about, just like old times. Or rather times when we were more care free about things.
That was/is the great thing about Handmade; you find yourself in the middle of something, not sure where the day is going to go or where the music is going to take you. There was something for everyone, played out in venues that we don’t get to visit as often as we like. Of course, Firebug is like a second home but, when you have someone who has made the trip to join you, you seek out more places to spend your time. To that end, we met some brilliant people and there was a lot of what I love about Leicester laid out for all to see; a great community of people and places that don’t always get the reputation it deserves.
We saw some brilliant bands and, if I had an ounce of music reviewer skills, I would delve deeper and describe who we saw, what they sounded like and how they were. It was actually hard to pick out favourites but, if I had to go with my first thoughts, I would put Haiku Salut, White Giant & the comedy outfit Dan Nicholls Conversation Garden up there.
So, back to reality with a sigh and a crash. Still, it was fun while it lasted..
